you need to use KAuCN sol for best results,
soak some wood charcoal with saturated KCO3 sol allow to complete dryness, place said activate char into a lidded steel can with holes on the sides top and botom, place in center of a pile of pre-fired charcoal birquits.... fan to high heat, until can in in danger of not being covered by hot coals...... extract can from pit and cool..........
if you did this right and got a current of realtivaly oxygen deprived nitrogen righ gass to flow through the hot coals into the can, you should beable to extract maybe 10% or more KCN from the activated char inside of the can, alternatly you can take it a step surther and use a can with no holes, plumed to a section of steel pipe full of fine copper wire jumbled into gause, also heated to high heat, passing air very very slowly say .1 ml/min through the coppper gause into the top of the char can and out of a tiny hole in the bottom, will give much better yealds upto %50 KCN more time is better
Add some gold to the sol, allow it to disslove, and you have a quick and dirty plating bath, use a feeble current of 3 ma per cm2 for the brightest resualts, the excess KCO3 will act as a protectivly to prevent the evlouation of HCN (mostly)
