Vertical resistors are space efficient and in good taste. Leaving inputs floating even without pins connected may not always be the best of ideas.

I like vertical resistors too. They've got longer leads when you salvage them.

On the contrary, vertical resistors usuallly have almost no lead left at the PCB side. I guess it works if you mount them veritcally again, but they are IMHO mostly useless for breadboard use.
