Fired first test shot this evening. charged to only 330 volts with a sucessfull fire. this thing got some power at only 330 volts!! i plan on 450 volts at full power. next shot i was charging and it got to around 330 again and booooooooooom!! sounded like my 30-6 my ears were ringin bad. it looks like one of the capacitors shorted on itsself??? Just a bad cap?? the rest of the bank should be ok cause they are in parrel true?

Sounds like you had a bad cap. If the capacitors were in parallel, I don't see how there could be any damage to the other capacitors, unless the actual explosion damaged adjacent caps.

Can you provide more information about the S.C.A.R. 1000 project (like coil, switching, etc)?

Few more pics. found some big thick shrink wrap. i feel much safer now after the cap explosion. Ive test shot it about 20 time and 3 or 4 times somthind else shorted on its self but not nearly as violent as the first time. looks like i lost one more cap... could the second bad cap be responsible for the multiple shorts? or once it goes it goes?

Apply more solder to your capacitor connections. I see in your pics that only half of the stranded wire is soldered to the caps. The whole wire will certainly still conduct, but you could get a spark between the strands at those contact points, which might sound like a short or damage the wires.
(I've had it happen to me before so that's why i said it)
very cool looking gun. are those the chinese caps from ebay that i see all the time? I've almost ordered some before.

pscg:
dont know about the coil jus used all the magnet wire out of a microwave transformer. approx 40-50 ft?. Switching will be acomplished with a 800 volt 110 amp scr.

ya, I got the caps off ebay from china, 2 of 10 have failed.. I also got a 500 volt dc lcd volt meter off ebay witch worked for all of 5 secs.. again from china.. If anyone has a similar volt meter they dont need, Iwould love to purchase it . I am a little annoyed having to wait another 3 weeks for one that will hopefull work.. I do need to use more soder, the negative side completly desodered off all 10 caps? I will make sure that never happens again. but I need a new sodering iron, the 10 guage sucks way to much heat out.

?'s
Can i discharge the caps while still attached to the charging circute jus makin sure
