The aforementioned have contributed financially to the continuing triumph of 4hv.org. They are deserving of my most heartfelt thanks.
Infernoptix, a sister company of NAO-design has built a pyrotechnic matrix which can be controlled by computer.
The Infernoptix Digital Pyrotechnic Matrix is the latest in high-impact visual and audio entertainment. The 96-inch screen employs computer-controlled bursts of fire, in a 12 x 7 array, to create scrolling text, simple animations, freehand sketching (via mouse), and an audio level meter. There's even a percussion mode, which takes advantage of the concussive nature of each burst to allow scripting and playback of complex rhythms.
Here is a 1-minute tour of the various capabilities of the Infernoptix as seen on there website:
I'm am wondering how the matrix exactly works. There is a bar in front of each row which is constantly lit. Behind this bar there is an other with 12 outlets which can be opened individually. Has anyone got an idea how those outlets could be controlled? Would there be internal valves or so?

Anyone interested in doing the same thing wiith sparks? At least the addressing and control would be easier since it would be all electrical.
This setup reminds me of the big pyro organ which is German, propane powered and midi compatible. It featured in Sydney, Australia at the same rock Concert (Big Day Out 2006) that featured Sid Klinges "Cauac" Tesla coil. Sadly I can't find a pic on google anywhere but vcideos I have seen before were very spectacular.

Peter, that was exactly what I was thinking off! If you would make a matrix of electrodes you could create some sort of lines by jumping arcs in between the right electrodes....
