Ok so this year for my science fair I built a coil-gun. It is my second attempt at one over the past few years, and the only one that has worked. (back then i was very new to electronics).

Ok so here is it's specks:
-Cap bank: 2x 250V 1500uf in parallel
-charging: A simple 555 oscillator switching a TIP31 then connected to a mains transformer in revers.
-Stock: Well I love wood working so I made a nice stock for it (took me a whole days work)
-Switching: I origianaly Used some SCRs but was unable to get them functioning properly so now I use a contact switch (and yes it's made out of lego!):-D
-Battery: currently I am using a 12V Sealed lead acid battery but eventually I will have 8X AA's ressesed into the stock.

Wow, nice job on the aesthetics! Are you putting the batteries in series for 12v? Because instead of the 8 AA's you could use a lipo, or a 12v rechargeable battery pack Link2

Sorry no vids of it firing yet, because the charger on it broke and it only goes to 170V, witch is pathetic. When it was working properly it would go through a tissue box. I'm probable not gona put a batter in it. No point for what it does now. I've got another gun in the oven at the moment.
