Hi all.
Saw the article on IEEE Spectrum about GaIn + agar layers doped with polymer and acyrlic acid.
Found my gallium stash :) and some other bits I needed including the agar.
Reckon that boric acid would work for one of the layers rather than acrylic acid? Also I am having a lot of problems sourcing the other component i.e. that polymer which seems to be essential.
It doesen't need to last long, just prove that it works.
Best analogy is that this behaves somewhat like a Metal ion battery with two identical electrodes. The gallium selectively oxidises at the junction of one agar plate but not the other, forming a diode-like structure. As the oxide layer changes thickness so does the resistance, reversibly due to the one way effect.
Without these two layers one oxide layer would balance the other and there would be no net resistance change.
