Hi all,

I am planning to build a capacitor charger as per uzzors nicely documented cap charger project, but I have yet another question--I've been reading through the forum to see if this question has been asked before, but was unable to find any info on this.

On uzzors build page the schematic only shows two capacitors, apart from the main cap bank: a 10nF and a 1nF. However, in the downloadable .zip file from the same site are PCB and placement images, and also a parts list. The parts list says that there is a third capacitor, a 100uF, and the PCB has a spot for it as well. (There are a few pictures on the site as well that seem to show the capacitor present too.) I've been trying to reverse-engineer the PCB to figure out where it goes, but am a little puzzled as to why this third cap isn't on the schematic, and also isn't included in any of the three purchase-lists also on the website.

I'm kind of a noob as far as circuits are concerned, so I am not entirely sure as to the purpose of the third cap, if it should be there, if it needs to be, etc., but am trying to figure out my full parts-list. Also, if this cap is required, what is the voltage rating on it supposed to be?

Boost Converter 12v

I traced the PCB layout and figured out where C3 should go (see above image)--does this mean that it should be rated to 12v? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, 4hv!

For convenience I also attached the Boost_Converter_PCB.zip that was found on uzzors website.

Its just an input filter capacitor to help even out the input voltage while the circuit takes big gulps of current. Its not necessary unless your power supply is simultaneously powering other components that are sensitive to voltage ripple. Youre right that it should be rated for at least 12v.
