Induction enhanced electroplating?

Hi all.

I just had an interesting idea.

Electroplate in an induction field using a relatively dilute acid.
The reasoning is that the iron heats up in the field and the metal ions near the workpiece become far more reactive than normal allowing it to be plated at a higher speed than normal for a given plating current.

Could this work for rapid prototyping?

Temperature (and other factors) play an important part in electro-polishing.

The electrolyte 'recipe' I generally use won't electro-polish below around 100 degrees C, below that temperature, electro-etching occurs instead.

below a certain voltage, dependant on other factors as well, electro-etching also occurs, even at these temperatures. In fact, there is a 'transition phase' where the voltage rises with no increase in current (a phenomena about which I have a few ideas, but which has never really been satisfactorily explained using accepted electro-chemical theory)

Would not using an induction field have other effects on the electrical charge in the electrolyte?

The current is a measure of the number of electrons per second. Each metal ion takes a fixed number of electrons to reduce it to the metal (for example silver takes one electron and copper takes two). So the rate at which metal is plated out is pretty much defined by the current. In the real world, not every electron goes into making metal atoms- this is accounted for by the so called current efficiency. For good plating systems that efficiency is already high so there's not much room to improve it.
Also, the temperature of the ions is practically the same as that of the solution so the same thing that you are suggesting could be achieved by simply warming the tank up a bit. I understand that plating systems often have coolers fitted because the waste energy from the plating process would otherwise overheat things.

As i can read you now where you talking about.
I am just starting curieus in this field.
Becouse i did see some coin factory's inside's the machine building en tools factory used here for.
Nice CNC'....realy accurate, and fast to....
En hard. What do you think the used inside the aqacrium as acids ?
I dont know? just wunder it what it would be.
Any thought's about it?
