Here are some first light photos of the DRSSTC III system. The first is during a run this evening.
I finally killed my secondary in the last run. Notice the green glow from the copper burning and the pieces of schrapnel going every which direction. Totally cool!!! Luckily, i have two more to destroy before i have to make new ones!!! I coated one side with epoxy (only had one tube of it), so that was pretty bombproof, but the other side (which is what burned up) only had a thin coat of acrylic enamel on it.

Enjoy!

Cool! Thats a really impressive spark output for that coil! Any IGBT deaths yet?

Are you running primary feedback with these coils?

Would it be possible to get an acrylic tube _just_ a bit larger than the secondary, slip it over the top then fill it with epoxy?
Might help with the issues?

Aw, nice, EVR =)

Love the pics, I was holding out for these for days...
In the first photo though, did you do nearest-neighbour interpolation when resizing?

Very impressive flashover!

Thanks for the comments.

Steve,
I did kill (2) IGBTs on the first night. I disabled my current limiting circuit and was really pushing the coil. This coil does use primary feedback.

Desmogod,
Yes, that is a possibility, although i'm going to try a couple of coats of epoxy first. That should be enough, and arcovers aren't too bad now - the last failure in the 2nd photo was merely a fluke. It arced to an an area with no coating and i just kept forcing it to fail for the photo-op.

Blackplasma,
I accidentally had very high compression enabled when i resized the first photo, so thats why it looks like garbage.

Here are some new photos including two inside the box, and another arc photo which is a composite of two photos (two break-out points too)

Very nice inside! Is the heatsink just a thick plate of aluminum?

Looks like you dont even need the strike rail suprised . I try not to allow too many primary hits, though the few that ive had, havent been a problem. You certainly are testing its resiliance to primary strikes, thats great!

Thanks.
The heatsink is an actual extruded heatsink with fins. The fins are underneath and in the airflow of the fan.
