The founder of the whistle-blowing website Wikileaks, Julian Assange, has been arrested by police in London.
The 39-year-old Australian, who was the subject of a European arrest warrant, denies allegations he sexually assaulted two women in Sweden.
Mr Assange is due to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court later.

Good to see John Pilger supporting him.

Is sad to see the government buckling under the pressure to arrest this guy....
I don't think people believe for a second that this isnt a trumped up charge.

Apparently the sex as consensual, but his condom broke. They managed to charge him with rape or something.

So if this was just some random guy accused of sexual assault, I am sure this thread would be exactly the same!

This is a VERY transparent setup: an excellent way to shut down the operation without further problems with censorship laws, etc. -=QUOTE=-
"One of the charges is that he had unprotected sex with a woman, identified only as Miss A, when she insisted he use a condom.

This is an allegation that cannot be proven and an obvious "he said / she said" type of court-room drama.

Another is that he had unprotected sex with another woman, Miss W, while she was asleep."

I find this simply incredible. No woman stays asleep while experiencing penetration. From a physiological perspective the demand for lubrication produces nerve responses that simply cannot maintain REM sleep. The human penis cannot secretly slip into a woman like some Incubus while she sleeps without her knowledge.

In UK law, what has happened is called 'malicious prosecution.'

When you see today's 'embassy cables' describing the wild parties of Saudi princes, with drink, drugs, and prostitutes paid for by US companies, while ordinary Saudi women are stoned to death for very much less, we can only wonder at the morals of people who would want to keep such vile injustice secret.

Yes, The States have a similar venue: both Civil and public.

This, from a Wahhabi government with "Religious Police".... I would bet a good lunch that either there has been strenuous efforts to keep this from the Islamic public or certain people are no longer welcome at The Palace.
