I've been working on a 1KJ capacitor bank for awhile now, and finally got things done. Now whats left, is to start hooking stuff up to it.

each capacitor is 450V 2400uF. They add to a total of 980J of energy.

SCR
1200V 650A Puck Link2

Antiparallel Stud Diode
800V 300A Link2

this bank is currently dedicated to multi-use. I have another 1KJ bank for a coilgun, and a 4KJ bank for some other project. 10KJ bank is slowly coming in as I get the cash.

Not much I can say right now, as I just got things to work...I did some simple tests with cruddy made coilgun, and stated the wrong voltage/amps for the diode in the video. The charger, is currently replaced with a variac and dualstack of MOTS. I dont have any spare MOTs, so I use my dual stack. I rather keep my quad stack alone.

Wanted to give an update. I manage to get the stud diode mounted on using a few sheets of aluminum. The most i have done now, with both ring launcher and shorting to foil, is 400V. Roughly 700J. So yes, everything have been going good. I got the SCR properly mounted using terminal connectors, and everything held up when i discharged at least 50 shots that night. Was fun, but now I have to work on making a decent ring launcher, that's worthy to show off. I also charge this bank using my dual-stack mots, so I can later charge my 4KJ bank to 900V. Series/parallel configurations.

Link2 (2 vids showing foil exploding) It was in a tube, to muffle the sound. Even with ear muffs rated 20db reduction, it was still loud.

I would strongly recommend some anti-oxidant paste like noalox or whatever the equivalent is in your area. Its a paste that contains some alumina grit to scratch off the aluminum oxide coating and give better aluminum-aluminum contact, at the same time excluding oxygen from the joint.

Yeah, probably best, to clean up the contacts I take it?

To be honest the busbar I used I dont think is really even aluminum. I think it was galvanized steel...I have plans to replace it obviously...

It has been working good so far, but probably could work better.

Updates!

Did some testing Thursday, exploded some stuff at full 450V charge. Was loud! I plan over time to move this bank into a coilgun..and use my 16 bank for exploding stuff..and later a 48 bank.

Video will explain it better than me typing it.
