After seeing CompWiz ZVS induction heater I decided to build one too. I used the widely spread circuit, the only difference is that i used irfp260 instead of irfp250. I am powering it with 40v and it draws 20A. The work coil is made out of 3mm copper wire 7+7 turns. The tank cap is made out of 5 Siemens MKP 220n 1000V caps, the fast diodes are MUR860 and the inductor is made out of 3 computer iron powder cores connected in series (and yes they do heat up aftee minute or so ). It takes about 10-12 seconds for the bolt to shine bright orange (the camera show it like dim red ). I put in a piece of aluminum just to see what happens and it melted afet about a 30-40s confused. Here some pics - the set-up, some heated objects and the power supply. So what do you think guys shades

Thats a nice induction heater. What is really impressive is you managed to melt aluminium directly. this proves it isn't just working on hysterysis losses as with iron.

Cheers

You wouldn't believe how much smoke/fire/bang they put in at mosfet factory. Surprisingly when some of those (or all) come out, they stop working :)

Wow yours went way worse then mine.

I was running it on 24v
when I heated a big bolt orange hot the fan slowed way down and the cap got kinda hot.

then I put bigger piece of steel in the coil and hit the switch the coil contracted(!) and POP Sssssssst

mine just let out a big purple flame and lots of smoke
it was not even hot before it died!

my basement smells nice now...

Maybe failure is because i don't see any pads between mosfets and heatsink neutral
