At the same time, this is roughly equivalent to the kinetic energy of a mass of 10 kg after a free fall of 5 m height at the time of the impact.
Comparing this with the energy of the 10 nF 200kV capacitor: Ec = 0.5 * (10 ** - 8) * (200,000) ** 2 = 0.5 * (10 ** - 8) * 4 * (10 ** 10) = 200 Ws
It can be seen that, due to the small capacity of the latter (comparison: 10/550 000), the energy is about one-half smaller despite the high voltage (comparison: 200 / 1.5).

I see that there is not a shorting bar across the terminals and wonder what surprises such a monumental capacitor might have in the way of dielectric absorption/residual charge?

This capacitor was used in an ultimately unsuccessful experiment. After many years I could save this capacitor from being scrapped. I will attach a shortcut to this capacitor as soon as possible.
