Hi, can people please add their radiation data here, it seems there might have been a small leak somewhere in Europe.
Not sure precisely how bad, but there was mention of a possible lost nuclear submarine ie K-8 or medical isotope production facility being responsible as the timing would be about right for corrosion of the hull, decomposition of casing in a landfill etc.
It would be interesting to see if in the last month anyone noticed an increase followed by a return to background levels.
looking at this the closest one would have been K-8

I had a quick google for info. a few days ago ... all quiet on the Western front ...
from what I gathered, the iodine was first detected in northern Norway the increase in radiaton background was too insignificant to report, apparently.
the uRad network showed no indication of the event that I could find.
The leak itself does not concern me, I am more concerned that if there ever is an incident that could affect me, I will not know until it is too late, and I do not want to ingest potassium iodide every day just in case ..... (just in case, I do keep enough KI to dose my entire neighbourhood :)
WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!
eventually :)
As no radioactive caesium was detected, I guess that the source of iodine was not a nuclear reactor.

Thanks!
Also I am looking into adding a node in Guernsey (three actually) using equipment generously donated from Airtel and folks on 4HV. They seem to think that only updating when a significant increase is detected might be more efficient, so every 12 hours the accumulated data is sent via 3G to the central processor here and a backup stored locally on the SD card(s).
Obviously the nodes will have both alpha and gamma sensors, with a bit of luck I'll be able to track weather related increases as well. Each node should have: pressure/temperature sensors, 2 GM tubes, electrical field sensors and possibly an optical flash sensor so coincidence checking can be done.
