On the Mica capacitors I got, the voltage rating is given in PWV. I have searched long and wide for an explanation of, in particular, the "W", assuming that P=Peak and V=Volts, but without success. But I gotta know! Anyone?

That's correct.
On older British capacitors we also see notation written like this: 750V WKG i.e. 750V working voltage, another variant being 750VDC WKG which means the part can withstand 750V DC constantly.
