We have a favorite old galvanized watering can, styled like this: The "rose" (round part with many nozzles) had rusted to the point where duct tape no longer prevented water from streaming through a hole in the back. I've been unable to find a replacement rose with matching screw threads.
The repair started with unscrewing the brass nozzle plate, wire brushing the tapered steel part, and soaking it in vinegar to remove rust. After more wire brushing, the offending hole was _much_ bigger and the smaller holes were more numerous.
Planning to use 5-minute epoxy on the inside, I covered the outside of cone with wide clear tape, and the outside of threaded area with electrical tape.
Here's what it looked like after the first coat of epoxy had cured. An embedded piece of paper spans the large hole. The resin was spread around and smoothed with a fingertip, which became smelly. The white paper in last photo is a template for fibrous reïnforcement in step two.

For the first time in a while, I have finished a project. Here the cone and large cylinder are ready for non-woven reinforcement, in more 5-minute epoxy. The threaded section was kept round by going into a machined brass drain fitting with a thin foam plastic spacer.
After sanding down stray fibers, I applied a coat of gray filled epoxy (Devcon Plastic Steel, much like JB-Weld). Unfortunately it's so opaque that we can no longer see all the holes through the steel by back-lighting. Here the repaired cone, and brass nozzle plate, are back in service.
Those threads rolled into sheet metal looked familiar for a good reason.
