ive got some oscillograms I'm trying to upload, give me a few minutes.
Related thread: HV Flyback Bench Top Power Supply for Lab. Related thread: Microcontroller Timed Flyback
The above oscillogram shows the flyback output at 36kV, (20kV per div) which strongly agrees with the ball-gap electrode measurement of 39kV. Pulse repeats on 150-ish uS intervals. load was 30 MOhms, indicating 1.2 mA and 43 watts, with sig figs I think. Keep in mind there are 3 or so seconds where this 36 kV appears, then 3 or so seconds where it jumps to 40 kV. I'm trying to sort that out. but the wavform is exactly the same. No drooping or anything.
Ive been changing the microcontroller timing with great results. My beloved 555 timer never would have filled this experiments requirements. I presume the above graph looks the way it does is due to the fact that a flyback is a complicated RCLD circuit, with a lot of non-ideal garbage tossed in.
I should have ran the 'A' channel off the mosfet gate at the same time as the this 'B' high voltage trace. Ugh.
my acrylic ball-gap. At 13mm the results seemed repeatable and credible. these balls are 0.625 inches in dia. (15.9 mm). I wish I could figure out my FEMM 4.2 program.
Input current pulse. Voltage as measured through a 0.50 ohm precision resistor. 17.4 Amp pulse.
46 kV with logic pulse.
After putting the load resistors under oil I got it to 50kV, with no other changes. I think there was some spraying of the ends. It did get less "hissy".

Killed my oscilloscope,
And not in the way you might think. The high voltage end, which I always feared wasn't the failure.
from USB insturments website:
Features:
· Combined Oscilloscope, Data Logger, Signal Generator, Spectrum Analyzer, Voltage and Frequency Meter functions · 12-Bit ADC Resolution · 12-Bit data streaming simultaneously on both channels. · 32k Byte Waveform buffer · Oscilloscope Mode - 20M S/s sampling rate ( repetitive ) 1M S/s native · DataLogger Mode - up to 50k S/s 12-bit data streaming simultaneously on both channels · Maximum input voltage +/- 50V DC (35V RMS AC) · AC / DC Coupling · Edge, min/max, pulse width and delayed trigger modes · Analog Bandwidth 250KHz · Inbuilt 10-bit waveform generator with +/- 3.5v output range and 1k buffer. · Hardware upgradeable over USB · Bus Powered USB Interface ( 250mA ) · EasyScope II ( Windows ) software (see downloads) · EasyLogger ( Windows ) software (see downloads) · Interface DLL's and code samples for 3rd party developers included · Instrument carrying bag included · Attractive enclosure with rubberized mouldings · Dimensions - W: 116mm x H: 30mm x D: 100mm
note this bit : Maximum input voltage +/- 50V DC (35V RMS AC) I think I put 62 VDC into the B port, saw a flash crackling and puff of smoke. I may have botched that bit. and I think I may have cuased an elevated ground problem that set it in motion. The A channel is working but so noisy as to be useless. well that's 220 US$ down the drain.

That's rotten luck, Patrick. I don't connect my scope - a cheap and cheerful Atten 100MHz digital storage scope - to anything I'm at all doubtful about, because it would be a good while before I could afford to buy another.

4 or 5 years ago this was the cheapest I could find. but ive got a source on another, has 10 times the resolution, better features and is about $70 ! some one should tell USB Instruments company ! time to look at your competition guys !
I sure wasn't going to use one of those nice Rigols' you guys have. I never forgive my self if I blew one of those.
I am happy to be getting 50kV with a no sag, and 1.6 mA, which means I can further my "Lifter / ionocraft" research

Ok ive got the oscilloscope working again and some high voltage data. Particullary the "Biefeld–Brown effect" (ion-wind) of course my research has been extremely secret since 1995. My secrecy is about to ease up. And devices like this will be used to support my future research.
As we all know the "electro-gravitics" type pseudo-science is bogus with little or no repeatable data. We humans, at this point, have no ability to use electric forces or gravity to influence one another. That may change in decades and centuries to come. But at the moment, its crap.

Rather like LENR, where genuine, sincere researchers have discovered anomalies which have yet to be explained, while the whole field has been rendered toxic and non-respectable by con-men making inflated claims unsupported by the data.
