Anybody know what frequency do they tend to run at? They don't specify it, and I can't imagine that posting a question on their site will lead to much illumination.

£29 for an induction hob makes it useful for all sorts of applications, notably microwave/induction hybrids. Just use a microwave with a porous Al base and a solid metal casing behind that for safety...

The ones I've seen usually run at between 20 and 30 kHz. The cheap ones like this usually use a single transistor topology, with a parallel resonant tank. For the transistor, they commonly use a single 1200 V IGBT. It's a bit sketchy but it works. The more expensive ones often use an IGBT half-bridge driving a series resonant tank circuit. This appnote from Fairchild gives a nice overview of the topologies .
