My gas lighter is weedy. I have several CCFL tube drivers kicking around.
Initial experiments show that the voltage directly on the secondary of a CCFL is just about enough to break over a fixed spark gap, if the gap is exquistiely controlled and very tiny, so not really suitable as something to leave by the gas hob and expect to work daily.
So what about multiplying the output? A quadrupler works a treat, 2mm arcs start spontaneously, that's enough for some tolerance. But that requires 4 diodes and four caps.
Given that the output is floating, we can get 75% of the peak output voltage for 50% of the components. behold, the arc generating floating tripler.
